Home under construction by Wilmington Builder/Developer to be featured on National Cable TV Show

A home under construction by Maritime Homes and Development, Inc., near Wilmington, NC will be featured on the Discovery Channel's nationally syndicated cable TV home construction show Gimme Shelter. It will be the only North Carolina home featured on the show this season.

Intended as the private residence of Maritime Homes' president, Steven O'Rourke and his wife, Kathy, the home is located in the Rice Hope development of Belville, NC, just across the Cape Fear River from Wilmington. This development was featured on the front page of the September 7, 1999 issue of the Wilmington Morning Star.

Taping will run from October 25 through October 28, 1999 and is slated to include the following demonstrations: Installation of hurricane structural tie-downs and strapping 10/25/99 Construction and installation of decorative handmade rafter tails of original design 10/26/99 Installation of environmentally-friendly termite control soil treatment system 10/27/99 Installation of copper flashing above window and exterior door 10/27/99 Laying down of brickwork on the exterior in a way to make it look aged 10/28/99

The home is a 3,700 sq/ft, two-story brick structure designed by O'Rourke. In addition to the features being taped, it will include: pre-Civil War salvaged pine flooring, recently recovered from the bottom of the Cape Fear River; 2 fireplaces (one gas, one wood-burning); pre-wiring for state-of-the-art security, TV, stereo, digital, and Internet connections; cherry wood floors; natural slate floors; and granite countertops.

The house can be seen on the Web at http://www.maritimehomes.com. Gimme Shelter plans to return to Wilmington in December when the house is more complete to shoot additional segments prior to editing and airing. The air date is yet to be finalized, but is likely to be sometime the same month. -Maritime Homes and Development, Inc. is a Wilmington-based home building and development company specializing in high-end, custom and luxury homes and townhomes. The company provides a full compliment of services in land development, feasibility studies, home building, sales and all other disciplines associated with homes. Their focus is on detailed, quality craftsmanship, elegant, efficient design, and they are diligent with regard to customer service.

"There are many different approaches to home building," explains O'Rourke. "I believe that customer service and satisfaction is of paramount importance before, during, and after settlement. A quality product is achievable through good management and knowledge of your business. Add to this a customer who is satisfied with how his hard-earned money has been spent, and now owns a home that meets his expectations, and you have an unfailing formula for success."

\Maritime Homes is also responsible for the construction of Maritime Square, a neighborhood of six townhomes located at 622 S. 2nd Street which borders Wilmington's historic district.

A professional builder for more than 20 years, O'Rourke, has completed approximately 2,500 homes in his career which began in Salt Lake City, Utah with the establishment of Trinity Homes and Construction.

After 10 years O'Rourke left Utah to enter the corporate world and became the youngest division manager at Stanley Martin Companies in northern Virginia. At the the Washington, DC "Parade of Homes" show in 1989, competing against national builders, one of his homes took seven out of 14 awards, including Best of Show, a highly coveted regional award in the building industry. O'Rourke moved to Wilmington four years ago where he established Maritime Homes and Development, Inc.
