In the summer of 1999, Maritime Homes and Development was approached by the Discovery Channel: they were interested in featuring us on their home construction show, Gimme Shelter. Most of Gimme Shelteršs episodes are shot in and around the Philadelphia area, and the Discovery Channel planned to film only one house in North Carolina. Impressed with Maritimešs quality of construction, and with the unique details being built into our homes, commitments were made and the dates for filming were set. The show, a one-hour episode, dedicated entirely to Maritime Homes, first aired in February, 2000. It focused on an original Maritime Homes design, the Discovery Channel House, then currently under construction. The eight-person crew chose to highlight several features of the home, including the unusual treatment of the exterior brickwork, specifically created for the client to look aged, the installation of handmade rafter tails, hurricane structural tie-downs and strapping, and standing seam copper roof installation. The show aired several times during the 2000 television season, and Maritime and our associates were excited to be honored by the experience.
