Construction
on this private custom home started in August 1999. Just over the Cape
Fear River from Wilmington, NC, the community, Rice Hope, is located on
land originally belonging to an old rice plantation.
The house is situated among a grove of southern live oaks dated from 200-400 years old and draped with Spanish moss. Additionally, the site contains 16 camellia bushes and a row of grapevines, all at least 30 years old.
The house was designed by our company's president as his personal residence. Special treatment of the brickwork, the use of 250-year-old pine boards for the floors and other details were specifically chosen to make a new house look as though it had been part of the distinctive surrounding landscape for at least 100 years.
Plans for this house are offered by Maritime Homes & Development. Final size when complete is about 4,400 sq/ft, including finished space over the garage.
